Work history: I’ve taught elementary school 37 years.
The last few years I’ve been a literacy coach. After I retire I plan to
keep helping English language learners and reluctant readers in volunteer
situations like Library Tutoring Programs.
When retired, plan to move to: Mostly we visit Clyde’s
home in Tennessee. He wants to relocate there after we retire.
Hobbies:
Have traveled to: Three years ago we took a three-week
Atlantic cruise in February. We were able to get off the ship and spend
a day in Venezuela. I got to go and study Primary school Reading and Math
instruction in the country of New Zealand in 1999, When we were doing a
math program called Beginning School Mathematics. (Whoops, run-on sentence:
Mrs. Hicks, Senior English) Mostly we visit Clyde’s home in Tennessee.
Of interest to other classmates: If I could be with you
all at the reunion, I would try to get each one of you aside and ask you
what your plans are for eternity. Do you have Jesus as Savior? I’m embarrassed
to admit that I was always ashamed of being a Christian. I didn’t want
my classmates to think I was different in school. I felt bad because there
were so many things I couldn’t do. Now, years later, I realize that anything
worthwhile has standards. I am so glad to be a Christian, to have love
and concern for all mankind – especially their souls. I’m thankful to live
in America where I can freely practice my beliefs.
Things I remember about Albion High School: Her teachers,
especially Mrs Hicks' english class.
